I recommend battery-powered tea light candles for safety.
I received an email yesterdays asking how compound cut scroll saw patterns are cut. I designed this simple tea light candle stand and included complete instructions to complete the project in the pattern book.
My 3D clamp jig is not absolutely necessary to make compound cuts but it does make it easier. You will see that I use this jig in the instructions of the Tea Light Candle Stand. You can also use quick clamps or a hand screw clamp to hold the wood.
I buy these Poplar 1.5" X 1.5" X 36" boards at Home Depot. They work very well for compound cut patterns as long as you only need 1.5". I rarely cut anything thicker. This is what I used for the candlestick
