Saxophone Art Sculpture Scroll Saw Pattern.

I enjoy designing these simple music art sculptures. Music is a theme that has a universal appeal.
I used 1/2" thick soft maple for the sculpture and walnut for the base.

If you are new to scrolling you may have a question about the black detail lines in this pattern. In scroll saw speak they are called veins. Veins are cut with the blade.

Most detail veins will begin at the outer edge and stop at some point inside the project. You cut the vein to the end and then back the blade out. It is almost always best to keep the saw running while you back out the blade.

I will often use a thicker blade to cut veins. The larger the kerf the more the veins will stand out in the final project. Sometimes I will use a Xacto knife to pare away a V cut to give the veins more width and depth.

GRR-RIPPER 3D Pushblock for Table Saws, Router Tables, Band Saws, and Jointers by MICROJIG

I spent a lot of time in my shop. As I have gotten older and hopefully smarter I pay much more attention to safety. I wear my hearing and eye protection. Before I use a power tool I ask myself if the operation I am doing is safe. If I am not sure I stop and make sure I know what I'm doing.

The table saw is the tool that I most often have to question myself about when I begin a cut. There are many ways to get yourself in trouble with a table saw. The speed that accidents happen on the table saw are blazingly fast. Over the years I have had accidents with the table saw. I'm not afraid of the tool but I have a high respect for the damage it can do.

Many times when I question the safety of a table saw cut, the Grr-ripper is my solution. I have owned and use a Grr-ripper for a few years. I am convinced it has prevented injury to my hands.

The Grr-ripper gives me great control of the board. It keeps my hands out of the injury zone. It helps prevent me from doing something dumb.

My contractor style table saw does not have all the safety features built into many of today's saws. One feature it does not have is a splitter. Without a splitter, you have a greater chance of kick back. With the Grr-ripper I am able to physically stop the kickback because I have such good control of the board. The horsepower of my saw is small enough that I can overpower the kickback. This won't work on a saw with a larger motor.

You can build a push stick for practically nothing from scrap wood. The Grr-ripper will set you back a few bucks depending on what options you buy. I have seen dozens of DIY push sticks. I have never seen one that is as safe as the Grr-ripper. For me, the cost is well worth it. Because of its unique design, it can be used on other power tools. It's function and versatility make this a must-have safety accessory for me.

I want to wish every mother a wonderful Mother's Day. I hope your special day is filled with family and love.
