It is estimated that 600 million people are active chess players around the world. Magnus Carlsen is widely considered the greatest chess player alive today. He became a Grandmaster at the age of 13. Magnus is rated #1 in the world and is only 26 years old.

Out with 2016 in with 2017. I hope you had a successful and happy 2016. My year had some highs and lows. I retired, my daughter got married and my mother passed away. The year was certainly memorable but I'm ready for a calmer 2017.
I want to thank all of you for allowing me to make patterns and share them with the world. The scrolling community is a great group to serve and I appreciate you all very much.

I wrote 311 posts this year. That's up from 253 posts for 2015. My high was in 2010 when I wrote 367 posts. That will be hard to beat.
Pattern download statistics have been broken for the last couple of years so I have lost track. It's in the tens of millions.
Over all I am pleased with the blogs growth. I still get email every week telling me I helped get someone into the hobby. That makes my day. I will try my best to continue to serve the community in 2017. Thank you all. I wish you a successful 2017.
