This is a technique I developed a few years ago. I use Polymer Clay(FIMO) to fill the voids of a scroll saw pattern. The piece is then baked in an oven to harden the clay. It is a fun technique and works very well. You can even use multiple color on the same project.
The ornament is cut and a backer board glued on.
I like to use the FIMO brand of polymer clay. You can find it at most craft stores. Here is an Amazon link you you wish to purchase FIMO online.
After you push the clay into the ornament it is baked at 230 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes. It becomes hard and once cooled it can be sanded. There are more complete instructions in the pattern book.
A random orbit sander makes quick work of removing the excess clay and revealing the inlay. I have had very good luck with the inlay being permanent. I had one piece fall out and it was easily glued back in. I have one hand mirror with this technique that is over ten years old and it looks just as good today as when I made it.
There are over 20 ornament patterns includes. Some are intermediate and other are for a novice level sawyer.

INCRA Miter 1000/HD Miter Gauge:
Buy on Amazon
I have owned and used the INCRA miter gauge for several years. It is easily the most accurate and easy to use miter gauge I have ever used. It has indexing notches every 1 degree to make setup super simple. The included stop also has indexed stops for accurate and repeatable cuts.
Have you ever set up a stop and made a cut to a certain length. Then after moving the stop to realize you need another cut the exact same length. It's always difficult to get back to the exact setup. Not with the INCRA. Just put it back in the same notch and you can repeat the cut.
The telescoping fence can be adjusted out to 31 inches.
I love everything about this miter gauge. It is built very well and has held up for over ten years of use.
This is not an inexpensive tool but it is a quality product. If you want an accurate and repeatable fence then give the INCRA a look.
