Guys, your wife or girlfriend will like this because of the effort and thought you put into the gift. Go ahead and buy her that diamond ring but also give her a gift that says "I am thinking about you".
The folding frame holds two 4" X 6" photographs. There are two versions of the frame. The rectangle one in the picture above and the oval one below.
The frame is cut from 1/4" thick hardwood and the backer board is 1/8" thick Baltic birch plywood.
The backer board is attached with four brass screws.
Let's talk about brass screws. If you buy the inexpensive brass hinges, they will come with inexpensive brass screws. These screws are very fragile. The heads will strip out if you do not prepare the screw and the hole first.
Always pre-drill for brass screws with the proper drill bit. If you are unsure which bit to use then do test holes before you commit to the final frame.
Make sure the screws are the proper length. I used screws in the hinges that are 1/4" in length. When inserted through the hinge they just barely miss going all the way through. In this case, it would not be that bad if the tip went through. They won't be seen but try to get the right screws.
The two most important steps for inserting brass screws are using the correct screwdriver and lubricating the screws.
The screw drive needs to fit the screw well. If you don't have the correct screwdriver then I suggest you get one before you start this project. You will get frustrated if you don't have the correct tool.
I keep a bottle of liquid hand soap in my shop just for brass screws. I squirt and dab on the bench and dip the tips of the brass screws before I dry to drive them in. If you have never tried this technique then trust me, it makes life much easier when dealing with these cheap screws. You will never drive another brass screw without soap once you have tried it.
When will you lose all your digital photos?

There are only a couple of cases here. Either you have already lost all your digital pictures or you will lose all your digital pictures. Every digital storage device that has ever been manufactured will fail. It is just a matter of how long it takes.
Today, people take more pictures than ever. Most people carry a great camera in their pocket all the time. The iPhone or any modern smartphone will take incredible pictures. Luckily most modern smartphones have built-in cloud backup. Sometimes the backup is not stored at full resolution. These photos will not print with the same crispness as the original. Make sure you have a good backup of the original files. Actually, it is better to have multiple backups. The original, local backup on an external hard drive, and cloud backup. Every file on all my computer has all three backups.
We take more pictures than ever because it is so easy. That means we have lots of photos that we will probably never print. If you lose those it's bad but if you lose that one great wedding picture you will not be happy. The absolute best backup for important photos is to print them. The oldest surviving photo was taken in 1827. No digital photo that is not printed or backed up several times will be around 200 years from now.
The printer above is not one that I own. I just looked for a small printer that was compatible with Apple and Android. It seems to have good reviews but whichever printer you use just make sure you print your important photos.
