I took a couple of days off to help my daughter and her husband move into their new home. Thanks for being patient with me in answering emails. I am far behind but I will get to as many as possible.
It was a little cold for the move but it went well. I was happy we did not have any rain. I am pretty sore but all in all, I think I held up reasonably well. There is still a lot of work to do in the house to get it set up so Patty and I will be spending some time there this week helping out. That should not interfere too much with work on the blog.
Obviously, today's pattern is a reflection of my daughter getting into her new home. All the parts are 1/4" thick. The sign is a little over ten inches tall. You can optionally add paint or just a natural finish.
Amazon knocked off a couple more dollars this week. The DeWalt DW788 is now $375.21
On Thursday the price was $379. Now on Sunday, we are down to $375.21. Any price under $400 is very good for this saw but we will take all the markdowns they want to add.
I remember when I purchased my first DeWalt DW788. That was over 20 years ago now and I was very impressed. I had owned a few entry-level scroll saws before the DeWalt but I had no experience with a higher-quality saw. The DeWalt changed my dedication to the art of scroll sawing. It was so much easier to use than the Craftsman I had. Everything from blade changes to vibration was just far superior.
All of these years later the DeWalt is still being used by scroll saw artists who are serious about the hobby and producing incredible works of art. There are full-time scrollers who use the DeWalt and get years of production. The saw will need some occasional repair work but in general, they hold up very nicely. My DeWalt has had only minor repairs in the 20 years I have owned it. I have replaced the on/off switch, air blower hose, and top chuck.
The DeWalt will wear out the bearings after extended use but unless you are a full-time cutter that is uncommon.
The DeWalt DW788 is an excellent value at the current price of $375.21 so if you are in the market for an upgrade from an entry-level saw, take a few minutes to check out the DeaWalt.
