Second Pattern Today
When I was one year old my mother had a very serious car accident. She was in the hospital and rehab for several months. During that time I went to live with my grandmother. Obviously, we became very close so I would spend most of the summer at her house as I grew older.
In 1962 or 63 I was at her house and she was reading me a story. I have no idea where this idea came from but I interrupted the story and asked her this question. "Grandma, will I still be alive in the year 2,000?" I was six years old so that was an odd question but every New Year that memory comes back and her answer is welded in my mind. She said, "You will still be here but I won't." Even though her answer was shocking to me it made that memory stick.
It is about to be 2025, and that memory hit me as I designed this pattern. The memory no longer makes me sad because everything we did at the time was happy. The memory was so burned in my mind that I see the memory as a picture in my head. I still have the children's Bible storybook from which she was reading. Here it is 25 years past when I thought I might not be here and that memory made me smile tonight.
Both of these patterns are three 1/4" thick layers. Feel free to not cut all of the layers and the patterns will still work okay.
