If you own a DeWalt, Delta or Excalibur scroll saw this tip might save you some frustration. The links on the air blower flex hose will eventually crack. The first link that connects to the machine is almost always the one that cracks.
If you have ever tried to replace one of these links you know how difficult they are to get apart. The pictures below show how to make the job much easier.
What you need to make the job easier is a heat gun and a pair of pliers. I have a heat gun from Harbor Freight that was under $20 and works okay for me.
If the first link was broken you can easily remover the flex hose from the scroll saw. In this picture I have it removed and ready to remove the cracked link. I use the heat gun on low setting and carefully heat the link at the first joint. Don't go crazy and melt the thing. Heat it a little then try to pull it apart with the pliers.
I probably used the heat gun for 30 seconds and it easily pulled out. It gets hot so don't use your fingers.
When you are ready to re-install the flex hose use the heat gun again to soften the first link. After you get it warm put your hand on the opposite side of the machine to brace it. Push the flex hose on to the ball joint of the machine. Let it cool and you are all set. It will now stay in place.
If you need a replacement flex hose you can buy them directly from DeWalt for $19.95. I think Seyco.com has the replacement for the Excalibur. I have not checked all the models to see if they are all the same so ask before you buy for your saw.
