This pattern has the brackets only. You don't need a pattern for the shelf. I cut a 24" long and 8" deep shelf to sit on the brackets.
The brackets are three layers thick. The outside fretwork layers are 1/2" thick and the center of the bracket is 3/4" thick. The 3/4" center layer is a perfect place to drill the holes to attache the brackets to the shelf and wall.
TI stack cut to speed the project up. I used Aspen wood to cut the shelf. It is really soft so stack cutting was easy.
Aspen is a very white wood with little figure so paint is a good way to finish it. It stains fairly well but again it is kind of a bland wood so stain still shows little interest.
Wow. The price keeps going up. I paid $299 just a few months ago.
Over the years I have often recommended the Delta 40-694 as a saw that was priced below its value. A few months ago I purchased the Delta with the intention of doing a video review. I bought it for $299. At that price, I thought it was one of the best values on the market.
I week after I bought it the price started climbing. The saw is currently $597.99 on Amazon. That prices it higher than the DeWalt which is a slightly better saw. I put off the review hoping the price would eventually drop. It has not happened yet. The bad news is that the DeWalt DW788 is not even listed on Amazon right now. I suspect they are having shipping issues so are out of inventory.
I do understand the price increases. Supply and demand is working just as expected. I just think the Delta price increase is over the top but I don't have all the facts so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
I am saying that at this point I would not buy the Delta and that's a shame. It was a fantastic saw for a new scroller that did not want to spend $800 or $900 for a high-end saw.
Fingers crossed that this is temporary. We need a decent saw in the $300 price range.
