This snack dish is cut with the saw tilted to a small angle. This makes a wedge-shaped cut and allows the pieces to collapse and wedge together. I used 3/4" thick wood and a #3 blade so my angle was about two degrees. Your angle may vary depending on the size of the blade and the thickness of the wood.
It is always best to make test cuts in the same wood to get a perfect wedge. The more shallow the angle the deeper the wood will wedge.
You can add a few drops of glue to hold the dish open.
I cut the bow from 1/4" thick wood and painted it red. When you glue the bow to the dish make sure the ribbons are not below the bottom of the dish.
DEWALT Table Saw for Jobsite, Compact, 8-1/4-Inch (DWE7485) Affiliate Link
If you are in a small shop with limited space then this may be for you. As I write this post the DeWalt DWE7485 table saw is on sale for $294.94 as a cyber Monday sale. The list price is $379.
The DWE7485 gets very good reviews. It is small and light enough to move it out of the way when you don't need it. If you are primarily a scroll saw artist then you really do not need a full-size table saw to cut blanks to size. There is enough accuracy here to make 95% of any cut you need.
I have always been a fan of DeWalt tools. I know a couple of people who own this saw and they tell me it performs well.
move the saw wherever you need it.
