I am experimenting with this post. This may not continue but for this pattern, I am also making the scroll saw pattern as well as a .svg file for laser and CNC people. I will also have a .stl file for 3D printer folks. I would like this to be something I can do in a limited way in the future. Not all scroll saw patterns make good laser or 3D printer projects but many do. The problem that I may face is support. It will be almost impossible for me to give support to people who use these laser, CNC, or 3D printer files. The technicalities are much different between supporting scroll saw patterns and digital manufacturing.
The top photo above was cut with one of my lasers and painted so as you can see it works well with a laser. The 3D print photo is below.
This is a pattern that you can make for your grandchildren or children to hang in their room. Maybe even an adult man cave. Out of 214.4 million gamers in the US, 51.1 million are children, while 163.3 million are adults. We love our playtime.
The pattern comes in two sizes. The small pattern is 8" wide and the large pattern is just under 10" wide.

The STL file is printed as one piece. These are not glued-together layers.
5,000-year-old boards!
This video is only about nine minutes long. There is no voice-over but there is captioning. These men take bog wood and turn it into boards. Bog-wood is harvested from the bottom of peat bogs. It has been down there for thousands of years and is in the process of fossilization.
The video gives quite a bit of information about the wood and I found it fascinating. As you can see in the image below the wood turns a deep black. The tree in the photo is oak. My understanding is that bog wood is used in expensive smoking pipes and stringed musical instruments because it has a very good tone. It is also used in some custom furniture.
Bog wood can be any species of wood that has fallen into the peat bog and started to fossilize.
Bog wood gets much harder as it ages and you need special blades to cut it. I doubt it would be fun to cut on a scroll saw but I sure would like to try. I found several sellers on Etsy who sell bog wood boards. It looks like a 12" X 2" board will run somewhere around $35 to $40. For a special project that is not terrible but the prices vary quite a bit. Etsy link
