14" X 11" Cabin Portrait Style Scroll Saw Pattern.

14" X 11"

This is not my original graphic. It was a piece of clip art that I liked so I heavily modified it so it could be cut with a scroll saw.  The original was available for personal and commercial use without restrictions.

North Eastern Ohio Scroll Saw & Woodworking Expo:

Patty and I arrived in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio Thursday afternoon. We are here for the NEOS Show that is being held at the Quirk Cultural Center. The show opens Friday morning at 9am and runs until 4pm. Saturdays hours will be the same.

After we were settled in the hotel I went over to set up my table. The Quirk center is a large older building located in a quiet neighborhood. It is easily accessible with plenty of parking. It is a nice place to have a small show.

When I got there a few vendors were busy setting up their tables. I was thrilled to see Missy there setting up a table for SAW. Barbara from PS Woods was there getting their tables set up. They have lots of scroll saw products for sale. You are sure to find something you want.

Doll Lumber had some beautiful scroll saw ready boards ready to sell. They had several species and it was all beautiful stuff. Belcher Carving Supply has a large setup with just about anything you would want for your carving projects.

Hawk Woodworking tools is scheduled to set up later Thursday. I look forward to meeting them and getting a close look at their saw lineup.

If  you are coming to the show make sure you bring a project to enter in the contest. No project is too simple.

I am looking forward to meeting some of you this weekend.

Edit while you cut?

This is a good pattern to talk about a cutting technique that can be useful. I call it "edit while you cut". Here is what I mean by this. If you are cutting a pattern and you see a weak spot in the pattern you may want to edit that cut on the fly.

There are a few reasons why you may want or need to make an on the fly edit. The pattern may just have an error. The board you are using may have a weak area. You may have made a mistake on an earlier cut and need to make up for it.

In the image below you see two interior cuts. The black area has already been cut. The grey area is the cut we are making now. As you begin to make the cut you notice the thin area between the two interior cuts. You may decide to make an on the fly edit to strengthen that area.

The red dotted line is the path you might take to add more room between the two interior cuts. You have to determine if the edit will alter the pattern enough to cause a problem. Most of the time it will never be noticed.

Think Safety

Remember to keep the safety of yourself and others in your work shop in your thoughts at all times. Always wear eye and ear protection. Follow all the manufactures warnings that came with your power tools. If I demonstrate something on this web site that you don't feel is safe, don't do it. Your safety is your responsibility. Fingers are handy things, try to keep all of them.
