I have received several emails lately asking about designing Portrait style patterns. It has been a long time since we talked about this subject so I thought I would post a video I did some time back. In this tutorial I show how to use Paint Shop Pro X2 to create a portrait pattern of Elvis.
This program can be found on Amazon.com and the newest version is under $80. If you don't mind buying the last version it can be had for under $50 before shipping. Link to PSP on Amazon.
There are other bitmap graphics program that can do the same thing but I like all the features of PSP. There are even a couple of free programs that can get the job done. One free program is Gimp. It is a very nicely featured program that you can download from http://www.gimp.org/.
The menus and selection will be different from program to program but the technique is the same. If you are interested in designing portrait patterns take a look at this tutorial video and I think you will agree it's pretty easy.

Meet Nutty, he stands 5 inches tall and is 10 inches long nose to tail. This guy can be made by scrollers of any skill level. There are no interior cuts and only 10 parts to cut out. You do want to spend a little time to contour the edges to round him up a little.
