I'll take some time to pause the holiday patterns for a day or two. I have two animal-themed patterns for you today.
The King of the Lions pattern is 10.25" tall. The pattern calls for 1/4" and 3/4" thick woods, but those are only suggestions. Use what you have available.
The Deer pattern is 7" wide and has four layers of 1/4" thick wood. Because it is a night scene with a moon, I painted the back board black.
Being distracted in a woodworking shop is no small thing—it’s downright dangerous. Tools like scroll saws, band saws, and table saws don’t give second chances when your focus slips. Even a moment of inattention can mean a ruined project at best or a serious injury at worst. Distractions might seem harmless, like glancing at your phone or letting your mind wander, but when sharp blades and fast-moving parts are involved, that tiny lapse can turn into a real problem quickly. A safe shop is all about staying sharp, both mentally and physically.
One of the biggest distractions is being tired. Fatigue makes your reaction time slower, your judgment cloudier, and your hands less steady. It’s like trying to drive a car when you’ve been awake all night—you’re just not at your best. In a shop, that can mean missing a measurement, letting your grip slip, or forgetting a safety step. The best thing you can do is recognize when you’re running on fumes and step away. Woodworking is supposed to be enjoyable, not something you push through when your body and brain are telling you to rest. The project will still be there tomorrow, but your safety can’t wait.
