Today is election day in the Unites States. People all over the country will be out doing their civic duty and voting. At the risk of offending everyone I thought this word art pattern was funny with just a touch of sadness. "I Voted. What have I done!". I think I might have subconsciously designed this pattern as a cry for therapy. I want to be a well read, civic minded, informed voter. The problem is that (they) have exhausted me to a point of  indifference. Download button below. Now on to more enjoyable content.

The Scrollsaw Workshop blog was announced today as a winner of the WWGOA Blogger Award. This award was nominated for and voted on, by woodworkers all over the world. My blog was one of the smallest in the running and it just shows the passion and loyalty of our community.

I have to be honest. I wanted to win this award. Of course personal recognition is always nice but this was more than that to me. I have a goal to be a part in making the scroll saw a bigger, more recognized tool to those more traditional woodworkers out there. If winning this award let's a few more woodworkers see what the scroll can do for them then that is a huge win for all of us. The more woodworkers who have and use a scroll saw the larger the commercial demand is. We want and need the tool manufacturers to see us as a viable part of their business plan. If this recognition moves that needle even a fraction then I'm happy.

There were four categories. I was nominated in the "Best Plans and Projects Blog" category. All of the blogs in every category are well deserving of praise and recognition. All of them put in many hours to produce content for the woodworkers who visit their sites. I myself read almost all of them. Below is a list of each of the blogs who were in the running for the award. This list will give any woodworker hours of fun, interesting and productive reading.

Look who else was a winner. Jimmy Prince sent me this picture and email. Thanks for sharing Jimmy and congratulations on the blue ribbon. This email made me smile.

Steve, I used your pattern of the Statue of Liberty to make a project to enter in the scrollsaw catagory at the Alabama National Fair that just ended yesterday.  It won the Blue Ribbon in that catagory.  I thought about sending you half of the ribbon then decided to just go to paypal and make a $20 donation instead.   Thanks so much for all the neat patterns you send us.

I call these moon silhouettes. There are seven different silhouette patterns in this book. Each one is set in front of a rising full moon. Using a low wattage light kit behind the silhouette gives a beautiful effect.
This picture shows the clip in light kit in the simple lamp base. Everything is cut from 1/4" thick Baltic birch plywood and painted black. You may need to modify the lamp base depending on the lamp kit you buy. Most of the clip in kits use a one diameter hole for mounting.

You can find these low watt lamp kits in most craft stores or you can order online. Click the image below to order from Amazon.

Think Safety

Remember to keep the safety of yourself and others in your work shop in your thoughts at all times. Always wear eye and ear protection. Follow all the manufactures warnings that came with your power tools. If I demonstrate something on this web site that you don't feel is safe, don't do it. Your safety is your responsibility. Fingers are handy things, try to keep all of them.
