The Tree Clock Scroll Saw Pattern. I get to use that scrap of Zebra wood!

http://www.stevedgood.com/estore/estore.html
This clock has a modern style to it. What I think makes it look nice is the beautiful piece of Zebra wood I used for the front body of the clock. I use 3/4" thick Zebra for the front of the clock and 1" thick Cherry for the back. The tree, top and bottom all all hard maple.  If you like this style and you have some scraps of nicely figured hard woods that adds a lot to the look.

The clock stands 10.5" tall. The clock is a Bear Woods 2 3/4" insert. Thay have a gold, black and silver trimmed insert to choose from. I tried all three and finally decided on gold. Choose the clock insert color based on the wood color you use. If you use a very lite wood you could probably use the black insert. That would make it even more in the modern style.

If you have other ornamentation for the front of the clock you can easily change the design. You have an area of ~ 4" X 6.5" to work with. Another option would be to not add any ornamentation at all. Just let the wood's beauty stand out.

One critical part of building this clock is sanding. After you glue the front and back together you want to sand the seams away completely. To do this you have to make sure the glue up is very tight so there are no gaps. If you boards are not flat when you start this may be a problem. That's where a jointer come in handy. If you don't have the ability to flatten boards choose you stock carefully.

The same applies to gluing on the top and bottom. Don't leave seams if you can help it. Because the top and bottom are only 1/4" thick you should be able to add enough clamps to remove and gaps while the cures.
