This Love You Rose is a little over 14 inches long. It is fragile unless you glue it to a backer board.
Do you need a foot switch for your scroll saw?

This question came up a couple of times while I was at the Ohio scroll saw Expo. The other question is what style switch should you purchase?
Let me start with the second question first. If you decide to buy a footswitch you need the Deadman style of switch. The deadman switch starts the machine when you press the switch. The machine continues to run until you lift your foot. You do not want the press/on press/off switch. The link above is the deadman style switch.
My answer to the question is yes. You do want a foot switch. Notice that I said "want" and not "need". You do not have to have a footswitch for any technique required on the scroll saw.
Here is what the footswitch gives you.
Safety. When a board decides to start jumping up and down because the blade is bound up in the kerf you can instantly stop the saw by lifting your foot. More than a few pinched fingers have been prevented by a foot switch,.
Control. When you begin a cut you have both hands on the board. You do not have to let go of the board when you finish a cut to reach for the on/off switch.
If you own the DeWalt scroll saw the foot switch can save you from having to replace the on/pff switch. They are notorious for failing because they get full of sawdust. With the footswitch, you can leave the on/off switch on all the time. This prevents the dust from contaminating the contacts.
I have had a footswitch on every scroll saw I have owned in the last twenty plus years. I would not own a saw without a foot switch. They are not expensive and they offer the above advantages so they are a no brsiner to me.
