The Boston Red Sox won the 2018 World Series over the Dodgers in five games. The series had a memorable game three that went a record 18 innings over 7 hours. The series MVP was Steve Pearce. This was the ninth championship in franchise history for Boston. Congratulations to the Red Sox and all their fans.
This commemorative plate is eight inches in diameter. It is designed in three layers. The backer board, plate, and decorative bat and ball.
I also included a smaller 6" plate but it will be difficult to cut the small letters. You will need a steady hand and a #1 blade. I would only recommend it for scrollers with some experience. I included the smaller version so I could write about the next section of this post.
Using my patterns with laser cutters:
I have more and more readers who are using my patterns with their laser cutters. These machines are slowly becoming more widely available to the home woodworker/crafter. Decent laser cutter/engravers are still quite expensive. Fortunately, many cities now have maker spaces and libraries that have laser cutters available to the public. I have a local library that has a very nice laser cutter and requires no payment to use it. You just take a simple orientation class and you are ready to get started. Check your library to see if they offer a maker space.
When I create the pdf of the pattern I make sure that the pattern pages remain in vector format. This gives a couple of advantages. It gives a fine line pattern that is easy to cut on the scroll saw and it is a format that allows it to be easily imported into vector programs. After the pattern is imported into a vector program it can be edited to work with a laser cutter, CNC router etc.
A free vector program named Inkscape is a good choice to import and edit my patterns. You can even use this program to edit the pattern for use on the scroll saw. You can personalize the pattern, change the size, convert to red line or other changes.
In today's pattern, I included a smaller version that is 6" in diameter. It would be more difficult to cut on the scroll saw but it is easily cut on a laser. In the picture below I let my laser engraver/cutter make today's pattern. I cut all three parts from 1/8" Baltic birch plywood. I painted the backer board red. I have a nice keepsake from the World Series.
