We are fast approaching Easter. I wanted to design a pattern that was interesting as well as easy. One way to simplify a pattern is to reduce the number of interior cuts. When you reduce interior cuts you need a way to keep the detail so the pattern is still interesting. The easiest way to do this is with veining.
Veins in scroll saw work don't require you to unclamp the blade to start the cut. This saves time and can make for an easier cut.
If you are not familiar with what we mean by veining on a scroll saw pattern here is an explanation. The veins are cut with the scroll saw blade. Start at the beginning of the vein and cut to the end. Keep the saw running and back the blade out turning the blade with the vein as you exit.
One problem with cutting large numbers of veins in the wood is that you weaken the wood making it susceptible to breaking. This pattern will start to weaken as you cut the veins. Make sure you are not holding a weak part while you cut the veins. Once you get the scene glued to the backboard it will have plenty of strength. Just be careful until it is glued down.
To add more interest I added an LED light strip to the top of the frame/box. These strips are cut to length. If I were to make this project again I would probably wrap the LED starting from the bottom right all the way around the box stopping at the bottom left adding more light. This would also keep the cord in a better position.
You can see the LED strip in the top of the box.
I used a battery powered LED strip. You can also get these with power supplies that plugin.
This LED strip is battery powered. You can search Amazon for several LED strips.
