Dragon and Sword Box Scroll Saw Pattern.

Everyone knows that you need a special box to store your magic amulet. If you don't store it according to the specifications in the wizard's handbook the magic will wear off. A magic amulet without magic is just asking for trouble form the evil sorcerer.

This box protects its contents with the power of a fire breathing dragon and the might of the Excalibur sword. It also comes with a thirty-day guarantee that no magic will be lost or your money back.

It's difficult to see in the picture but this is a small box. The dragon is only 3.5" long.

Incredible project by Dave Monk:

I get a lot of emails and many of you send me pictures of the projects you are working on. You guys always surprise me with how creative and talented you are. Every once in a while I get a picture of a project that just knocks my socks off. That happened yesterday.

Dave Monk sent me an email that I just had to share with all of you. The email was simple. He thanked me for the patterns and said he liked that I made them easy to modify. The email also included the pictures you see here and said he hoped I would have time to check them out.

I recognized the box as a pattern I did several days ago. I saw that he had changed the decoration but then I noticed something incredible. Dave had taken the fretwork and turned it all into inlay.

To put it mildly, I was stunned. I started trying to figure out if he had converted the pattern and used a CNC to do the inlay. I own a CNC machine so I know what they can do. This inlay would be very difficult for a CNC machine to accomplish. I decided that there was only one answer. He had hand cut the inlay!

I emailed Dave back and asked what his secret was to this incredible project. His reply was humble and informative.

"Steve, I really don't have much to tell as far as secrets. I always use 3/8 thick wood....,.#65 drill bit for entry holes.........#3 Pegas MGT blade.........Famowood filler to cover up and bad spots. I sure wouldn't use any dust collection or you might be sifting through sawdust fo find your pieces"

Below is a picture of the original project.

I have done a lot of inlay on the scroll saw. I even think I do a pretty good job. What Dave has done with this project is so advanced that I am honestly speechless.

Dave, I want to thank you for sharing this project with me. I am honored to have the opportunity to share it with my readers.

JET DC-650BK Dust Collector with Bag Filter Kit

I have owned this Jet dust collector for a few years. It is not the most powerful collector on the market but for a small shop, it does fine. I use it with my table saw, planer and jointer. It had worked flawlessly. My only minor complaint is that the bottom bag is a little difficult to remove and empty.

I solved that problem by adding a cyclone and disposable plastic bags. Now it is a breeze to empty. Dust collectors are not cheap but they are so important that I consider them a must have tool.

  • Hook up one to three machines for optimum dust cleaning
  • Quick-install collection bag makes emptying and re-attaching a snap
  • Single-stage design for economical and quiet operation
  • Includes four casters for maneuverability and total portability
  • Permanently lubricated, totally enclosed, fan-cooled motors are rated for continuous-duty
