Easter Bunny and Chick Scroll Saw Pattern.

Download Below

Here is the first Easter pattern of the year. The bunny is a bit over seven inches tall. It can be cut from 3/4" thick wood. If you really want to jazz it up, use one of the LED strips on the base behind bunny and chick.

Answering Confusion about Spray Adhesive:

In the last post, I talked about the qualities of spray adhesive and glue sticks for applying scroll saw patterns. I made one statement that I did not make very clear and I received several emails about it.

I said that the way I prevent lifting with spray adhesive is to use blue painters tape under the pattern and not to let the glue set and tack before applying the pattern.

That statement goes against the instructions on the can and what most people will tell you to do. Let me explain.

Because I am using blue painters tape under the pattern, the pattern can be permanently stuck. We are not going to have to remove the pattern from the tape. They can be bonded completely and it won't matter. The problem is that to get the strongest bond possible you need to spray glue on both surfaces, allow the glue to tack for a couple minutes, then apply the pattern. That will be as permanent as possible but I don't want to spray the surface of the blue tape because it is very messy.

That leaves us with two choices. We can spray the back of the pattern and apply is instantly or we can spray the back of the pattern and wait for it to tack before we apply the pattern.

I have tested both choices several times over the years and I cannot tell any difference between letting the glue tack and not letting it tack when the pattern is applied to blue painters tape.

There is a huge difference if you apply the spray glue to both surfaces and let it tack but like I said I don't want to use that method because it is messy.

1. Spray adhesive on the back of the pattern and the pattern applied instantly.
2. Spray adhesive on the back of the pattern. Wait 3 minutes to tack then apply the pattern.
3. Spray adhesive on both the pattern and the tape. Wait 3 minutes to tack then apply the pattern.

When I try to remove the three pieces of paper after 20 minutes, number 3 is extremely difficult to remove. The paper almost tears. It is close to permanent.

Paper 1 and 2 show absolutely no difference when I try to remove them. This is not exactly the same as cutting fretwork but even there I see no difference.

Pattern lifting is the most problem when fretwork is very detailed. The paper just gets weak. Under just the right circumstances both 1 and 2 will lift sometimes. When this happens I just use my finger to help hold the pattern while I cut. My finger might be a couple millimeters from the blade.

My suspicion for there not being a difference is that I am applying the paper to the blue painter's tape. The results may be different depending on the surfaces that are being glued.

That is my explanation of the statement I made that was not clear.

Everyone has there own methods for how they work in the shop. I'm not trying to say that my way is the right way. My way is just my way based on my experiences. Use your experience and test to do what works for you.
