Just a simple pattern but it says a lot. Luck is often manufactured by hard work.
I had a long discussion the other day with a friend about how lucky I was to have a long career with the same company. I worked for the same company for 37 years and enjoyed the people and the work. It was a good place to be.
Was it luck or hard work? Yes, it was both. I was lucky to get hired by a company who was growing. I worked hard in school so I would have the opportunity to get hired by a company who was growing.
I was lucky to have the opportunity to work 37 years at the same company. I worked hard so I had the opportunity to be lucky enough to work at the same company for 37 years.
I was lucky to be able to retire and now write this blog full time. I worked hard for several years to put myself in the position to be able to do this full time.
Sometimes we have random good luck. That is cool. Other times the luck was not so random. We worked hard for that good luck. Both are okay but we get more from the luck we worked for.
Yep, I am a very lucky guy. Oh, and I worked pretty hard to be this lucky.

We had a fun day:
Not a real photo but I can dream, can't I?
My wife, Patty is a member of the Kentucky Speedway Fan Council. A couple times a year they all get together at the track and discuss how things are going from the fan's perspective. She loves being there and I always tag along.
Today, after the meeting they let us take our personal cars out on the track. The track is 1.5 miles with banking of 17 degrees in 1 and 2. Turns 3 and 4 are 14 degrees. That is nothing like banking a Bristol but it was interesting to drive my Ford 150 Supercrew into those turns.
I only got it up to about 80mph but in my mind, it was 180mph, the final lap of the Quaker State 400 and I was coming out of turn 4 just off the bumper of the leader. I went high and when he tried to block I went down the track for the pass at the checkered flag. I have also kicked the winning field goal at the Superbowl with two seconds left, Hit a full-court buzzer-beater in the NBA finals and broken up a no-hitter with a home run in the bottom of the ninth to win game seven of the World Series. In other words, I have the mind of a twelve-year-old kid. Never grow up.....
One more thing. My wife never once told me to slow down. She felt the need - the need for speed.
