Father's Day falls on the third Sunday in June. You still have plenty of time to make something for Dad. I will try to get at least a couple patterns for Dad in the next few days.
This pattern obviously has a woodworking theme for dad but that could be appropriate for any father who likes to build things.
I used 1/4" Baltic birch plywood for the blade. I then spray painted it with metallic silver spray paint.
The base is just 3/4" thick pine with a slot cut out for the blade.
How should you dispose of used scroll saw blades?
I had this question twice this week. "How should I dispose of used scroll saw blades?"
I'll be honest that I don't remember if I have seen this discussed before. I am not sure I know the best answer.
I can tell you how I dispose of the blades and if you have better ideas feel free to pass them along.
Not my normal disposal
I am diabetic and I have to dispose of my needles in a sharps container. Because of this I sometimes just throw the used blades in that container. I'm not sure I am supposed to do that but when I read the FDA document is says any sharp item can be placed in the container. Guidelines for disposing of the sharps container vary from city to city so you have to research for your location. If you really want a safe method you could get thousands of blades in a 2-gallon sharps container. They are not very expensive and will probably hold a lifetime of scroll saw blades.
Normal disposal
That is not my normal disposal method. Most of the time I have a soft drink can with me in the shop. I bend the used blades and put them in the can. The can holds dozens of blades. I do not recycle the can because I'm not sure if the metals can be separated at the recycle center. I don't think this is a problem because one can will hold so many blades. I just place it in the normal trash.
I am not sure if there are federal recommendations for disposing of this type of metal. I'll try to do some research and find the answer. If you know the proper method let me hear what you know and I will pass it along.
