These Welcome to my Garden signs are 10.25" long and 14" long. I included Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Mum, and Dad. I also included a blank so you can add a name of your choice. The blanks come in both sizes.
If you choose to use the backer board you will want to use waterproof glue. A few small brad nails would not hurt either. I am showing the simulated pictures painted green. That seemed like a good choice for a garden sign. Your choice but just make sure you use some finish that can hold up to the weather.
If you want to preserve the sign for more than a couple of years then use a wood species that can withstand the weather. Here is a link to an article giving good outdoor woods.

Alex Fox is an incredible scroll saw pattern designer. Take a look at his Etsy page and read the reviews.
He is pretty much 5 stars across the board and deservedly so. He has a pretty good variety of patterns so you will probably find something you like.
His patterns are priced slightly toward the high end but the quality is there so I feel comfortable sending you to his page.
This pattern would be especially nice cut from a beautiful hardwood, enlarged and framed.
