There are five signs in the pattern. The pattern calls for 1/4" thick wood. In the one I cut above I used 1/8" hardboard so there is not much depth in the photo. 1/4" would have worked better. Look at the parts image below to see the complete pattern.
Don't Be Afraid To Experiment.
People have been cutting wood on the scroll saw for a long time. You might think that just about everything that can be done with the saw, has been done. As soon as you think that something new comes along. I'm not sure that cutting a name in banana has been done but it would not surprise me if someone gave it a try.
Don't be afraid to try something unexpected and different. Don't let your biases of what looks normal get in the way of your art. Just jump in feet first and enjoy the process. When you complete the project don't judge it right away. Let it sit for a while and see what you think the next day. That helps eliminate those biases that we all grow up with. I guarantee that many really cool ideas have ended up in the trash because of the artist being over judgemental.
If you consider yourself a maker/creator then trust yourself. Let it happen. Some ideas come as accidents. Some are completely random, and some happen from just sitting down and thinking differently.
We all have that negative voice in our head that says our idea is silly. When you hear that voice it is a good sign that you were just being creative.
Price increases stink!. I understand why prices are going up but it still stinks.
I was hoping the new WEN scroll saw would jump in the market and be a good value for a nice saw. From Feb 5th to Feb 22nd the price on Amazon of this new saw went from $370 to $453! It's the same story. They can't get inventory so low supply means higher prices.
I'm not blaming WEN. I think they have done a pretty decent job of bringing entry-level tools to the market that are better quality than what we have had. I own a few WEN tools and they are nice for the price.
I am not looking to lay blame. There is enough of that going on that we sure don't need my feeble opinion. I just know that price increases especially hurt smaller niche markets. Right now the best value is with the high-end saws. They seem to be able to hold their prices down better than lower-priced saws.
