This was a requested pattern from a reader email. I use a lot of painter's tape myself so I decided to post this pattern for everyone.
My technique for applying a pattern to the wood is this. I print the pattern on printer paper. I apply a layer of painter's tape to the board. I spray the back of the pattern with spray adhesive and glue it on top of the tape. This is the method that I find the most useful. There are many methods to apply a pattern to the wood. Any method that you find works for you is fine. This is just the way I apply the pattern.
The painter's tape serves a couple of purposes. It makes the pattern very easy to remove from the board after the pattern is cut. Second, the release agent in the glue of the tape actually lubricates the scroll saw blade as it cuts. The lubrication reduces the friction heat from the blade. Less heat means less burning of the edge of the wood, Longer lasting blades, and smoother cuts.
On the downside, painter's tape is relatively expensive. I buy mine from Amazon. I get the 6 roll pack of the 1.88 wide tapes. The six-pack is $35.48. I have ordered two sets since April of 2020 so they last me quite a while. That is about $6 a roll. I average about one roll every two months. That means I pay about $3 a month.
Let me begin by saying that I do not know this seller. He has a small Etsy store with only a couple of reviews. Both reviews are positive. He resides in Ankara Turkey.
That said, the pattern is $13 and is an instant PDF download. I did not buy the pattern so I cannot give any details but the video shows the pattern and it looks okay. The video is well made so I feel like he will put the same effort into the pattern.
I am posting this because the project looks really nice. It would make a beautiful heirloom toy for a child or grandchild.
