I hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th of July holiday. I spent the afternoon of the 3rd at my brother's house with his family and friends. We did all the traditional 4th of July events. We cooked out and enjoyed sitting around talking. Then after dark, we set off a really nice legal fireworks show.
The weather was perfect here in southern Indiana for all the events. The temps after dark were pleasant so we just stayed outside. We called it a night around 1:30 am.
On the 4th my wife, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and I went to see the new Elvis movie. It was an interesting movie. I thought I knew most of the details of his life but I did learn several new facts. The movie was not what I expected but I did enjoy it.
I thought Austin Butler did an excellent job of portraying Elvis. I would have liked more music but that was not really what the movie was about. Elvis led a fairly tragic life and the movie spent most of the 2 hours 39 minutes making that statement.
Tom Hank's portrayal of Colonel Top Parker was just what you would expect from Hanks. He is one of my favorite actors and I thought he was very good in this role.
If you were an Elvis fan I think you will enjoy the movie. Don't go with the expectation of it being about his music because that is not the case. The soundtrack is excellent but not the focus of the movie.
I'm not sure they even play an entire song during the movie.
