I don't know if, suncatcher is the correct word to call this pattern but the sun shines through it. In my mind, it hangs in a window but any source of backlighting will work. The pattern is 8" wide.
There are three layers. Each layer is cut from 1/4" thick wood.
You're doing it all wrong!
Just about everything we do in arts and crafts can be accomplished in more than one way. Very seldom is there "The right way" to make art. I have a few hundred videos on YouTube showing scroll saw techniques. Every few days I will get an email telling me that the way I do something is not correct. 😀
While there are not many techniques I have not already tried on the scroll saw I appreciate the back-and-forth conversation. I know they are trying to be helpful. The point of this discussion is that there is no one way that you have to follow to make art. Experiment and don't let anyone tell you not to try it your way.
Be open-minded to trying different techniques but if you don't like something find something that works for you.
One example is applying patterns to the wood. I use spray adhesive. It works for me but I know that some people are not fans of spray. Whether you take the time to trace the pattern onto the wood, glue it on or use a laminate machine, all that matters is that you have a line to follow while you cut.
Another example is buying an entry-level scroll saw. Many folks will tell you that you have to buy an expensive saw to get good results. I have seen wonderful works of art come off of even the least expensive saws. If you have the patience to work with the entry-level saw you can make art.
You do you. As long as you are not doing something unsafe then jump in with both feet. If you enjoy the process and end up with art that makes you happy then you did it right.
