Fun little snake wiggle toy. This snake toy is cut from 3/4" thick wood. Instructions for cutting and assembly are included in the pattern. You will need a 1/8" dowel to connect the pieces.
I use a foot switch on all of my scroll saws:
One accessory that is a must for me is a foot switch to control my scroll saws. I like the extra control it gives me to always keep two hands on the board. If the board starts to bounce I can instantly stop the saw without reaching for the saw on/off switch.
There are two types of foot switches. One is called an on/off switch and the other is a dead man's switch. I recommend the dead man's switch.
Here is the difference. The on/off switch requires you to hit the switch to start the saw. Then you have to hit the switch again to stop the saw. This can take time especially if you miss the switch with your foot. In my opinion, you lose some control with this style switch.
The dead man style of switch requires you to push the switch with your foot and hold the switch down as you cut. As soon as you lift your foot the saw stops.
I have had good luck with the MLCS 9080 dead man switch sold on Amazon. I own a few of them and only once or twice have I had any trouble. I had one get flaky once and it would stop without me lifting my foot. I took it apart and blew the dust out of the switch and it has worked since. I have owned some of these switches for close to ten years.
I do know scrollers who prefer the on/off style of the switch and they find it easier to use. We are all different so choose the one that feels right for you. Either switch is better than using the saw on-off switch.
Another advantage to the foot switch is that you can control your dust collection with it also. That way the dust shop vac only runs when the saw is cutting. See the photo below for how I set this up.
I also screw the foot switch to a riser to get it to the proper comfortable height. I sit on a tall stool while I cut so I need the foot switch of the floor a few inches.
