This tissue box holder is a little different. It is not a surrounding cover with no bottom. It is a box with a removable lid insert. All the parts are 1/4" thick. I used Baltic birch plywood because I did not have enough 1/4" hardwood to complete the project.
When Patty and I got married we had the ceremony in an old country church. She has always collected old church figurines. She asked me to make her a tissue box with a country church theme. I kept the scene very rustic and simple so you can cut this project rather quickly. It took me less than an hour to cut. Be careful when you cut the slots and tabs. You want them to fit well.
If you have any gaps after gluing up, here is a simple trick. Save a small pile of sawdust from the cut. Mix a little wood glue until you get a paste consistency. Fill the gaps with the paste and sand flush.
Amazon has the DeWalt DW788 scroll saw for $399
The DeWalt is one of the most popular scroll saws ever sold. It may not be the best saw on the market but it is not far behind. The DeWalt was the first non-entry-level scroll saw I purchased. That was back in 2006 and it still runs as well today as it did back then. The first time I sit down and started cutting I was amazed at how much easier it was than cutting with my $100 Craftsman entry-level saw.
This saw also changed my life. After I purchased the DeWalt I got hooked on the hobby. That led to me starting this blog in 2007. All these years later I am still hooked so I have an appreciation for the DeWalt scroll saw more than just because it is a nice machine.
It is too late to get this item before Christmas but if you are looking for a saw to upgrade to from an entry-level saw this is a great price. These Amazon prices jump all the time so if you are interested take a look now.
