This is a large project so stack-cutting is very helpful. I used 1/8" Baltic birch plywood for the fret panels. If you use the scroll saw to cut the panels you can easily cut 3 or 4 at a time. I cut the panels with one of my laser cutters so the project only took me about five hours.
The pattern is designed so you can add extra fret panels to make it taller and extra sections to make it wider. The pattern included dimensions for the rails depending on the height you want. The project in the photo above is 48.5" tall
I used 3/4" thick pine for the rails but a nicer hardwood would add a lot to the project.
This project really needs you to have more tools than most of my projects. The fret panels sit in grooves in the rails. I cut the grooves with my table saw.
