This basket is ten inches long and five inches deep. All the parts are 1/4" thick. The project is a slot and tab construction. The handles are designed to pivot so you may need to sand the pivot tabs to get a smooth action. The handles will probably not hold a lot of weight if lifted so be careful.
Do you need a foot switch for your scroll saw?
A foot switch gives you hands-free operation of the power when cutting with the scroll saw. The switch is plugged into the wall outlet, Then the scroll saw is plugged into the switch. When you press the switch with your foot the scroll saw starts.
There are two styles of foot switches on the market. One switch starts the saw when you press the switch then you have to press it again to stop the saw. The more common foot switch used on a scroll saw is a momentary/deadman-style switch. When you press the switch the saw starts. When you remove your foot from the switch its stops the saw.
There are people who prefer the on/off version but in my opinion, they are not as effective. One advantage of using a foot switch is the ability to stop the saw quickly without letting go of the wood with your hands. The deadman-style switch is much faster at removing power. I don't know of any scroll saw manufacturers who sell the on/off version of the foot switch.
So the question was, "Do you need a foot switch?", You can absolutely use the on/off switch on the scroll saw to start and stop the saw. With experience, you can do just fine using that method. For me personally, I always use the foot switch. I have one on all of my scroll saws. I like the convenience and extra safety they provide.
You can buy these switches on Amazon. The one I like is not currently available on Amazon but Bear Woods has them on their site. I did not check their availability so check before you buy.
The WEN switch below is available on Amazon. I have one of these also and it seems fine, I just like the larger switch that Bear Woods has.
