There is no love in this world like the love of a mother, and on Mother's Day, we honor and thank all the amazing mothers for their unwavering love and support. Have a wonderful Mother's Day.
Click to EnlargeThis is a simple pattern from an image I generated using Bing's AI image generator. I call it the "sheep farmer". I did very little editing to turn it into a scroll saw pattern but I like the rustic style of design.
The pattern comes in two sizes. 10" tall and 12" tall. You can use just about any thickness of wood you have on hand,
I received a question about cutting right-angle turns on the scroll saw:
I have been writing this blog for so many years that I sometimes forget that there are always new people coming into the hobby. They have questions about basic techniques that we take for granted.
Today I had an email asking about cutting tight turns without rounding the corners of the cut. The video below is one I put on YouTube eleven years ago but it still shows the technique well enough to share again.

MLCS 9080 Billy Pedal Foot Switch, Deadman Style
I use a foot switch on all of my scroll saws. It gives me more control and the ability to stop the saw instantly. It is not so much about getting cut with the blade as it is about bouncing wood.
You try to make a sharp turn and the blade catches and lifts the wood off the table. This is preventable with a hold down but most scrollers remove that safety device so the next best option is a dead man style of foot switch. The saw only runs while your foot is pressing the switch down. When you lift your foot the saw stops.
I have purchased a few of the MLCS 9080 foot switches and have always been pleased with their durability.
