I have designed a similar pattern to this T-Rex before but I was not very pleased with it so I decided to try again. I like this one better. This will not be an easy pattern to cut. The tip of the tail is small and will tend to break if not careful. If you have trouble just eliminate some of the detail.
The T-Rex will be over 15" long. You can cut him from 1/4" thick wood. The main body is 1/2" thick so you can either cut 1/2" or double up 1/4".
The Jesus portrait is 10" tall and cut from two layers of 1/4" thick wood. The front layers is painted black for a good contrast to the backer board.
3D Print of my Patterns
Many of my patterns work well on a 3D printer as well as a laser cutter. I took today's T-Rex pattern and printed it on one of my 3D printers. I scaled it down about 50% so the print is 9" long. I print this type of pattern in sections and then superglue the parts together just like a scroll saw project.
I thought some of you might like to have the .stl file so you could print it on your 3D printer. Many local libraries now have maker spaces with 3D printers. They offer classes on how to use them and let you schedule time with one. If you are interested in this technology that is a great place to start.
