Almost everyone can use a trivet so they make nice gifts. The river is 7.5" in diameter and can be cut from 1/2" or 3/4" thick wood.
When making a wooden trivet, you’ll want to choose hardwoods with a tight grain that can handle some heat and wear. Good options include:
Maple: Its fine, consistent grain makes it durable and attractive.
Cherry: Offers a warm tone and smooth finish.
Walnut: Rich in color and strong enough for everyday use.
Oak or Beech: Also great choices if you seal them well.
For caring for your trivet, here’s what works best:
Clean Gently: Wipe it down with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking it in water.
Dry Thoroughly: Make sure it’s completely dry before using it again.
Oil Regularly: Use a food-safe oil (like mineral oil) to maintain the finish and protect the wood.
Avoid Prolonged Heat: Don’t leave super-hot pans on it too long; consider using a pad if needed.
The second pattern (Butterflies and Flower) is cut from 1/4" thick wood. Coloring the backer board helps the flower stand out.
