This pattern was not designed to celebrate the events in 1945. It has been 80 years, and most people alive today are not old enough to have more than history lessons about WWII. This pattern was designed as a memory starter and a push to read and watch the lessons from that time. Amazon has quite a lot of books and memorabilia from the period.
80 years ago this year, the nuclear age began, and everything changed for war and peace.
People can debate over, if the US should have dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It ended the war, but also caused unimaginable suffering and death. For me, it is difficult to judge the leaders who made that decision 80 years ago this year. They had so much to lose if the war continued. We would likely have eventually won, but probably would have required the invasion of Japan, which would have been brutal for all sides.
The plane is 12.5" long, and the pattern calls for 1/4 and 1/2" thick wood. With the exception of the lettering, the pattern is pretty basic.

Warning
While there are no human graphic visuals in this simulation, it does show the destruction of a city, including the blast, shock wave, fires, and aftermath. If this type of information is bothersome to you, then do not run this simulation. I'll be honest. I started this as a game, then realized that the events are way too serious for a game. When that realization hit me, I decided to turn it into a lesson. The first screen of the simulation has several facts about the atomic bomb. I also tried to show how the bomb blast happens

Enola Gay Plane Pattern.
