Compound Cut Christmas Tree Scroll Saw Pattern.

http://www.stevedgood.com/estore/estore.html
I know some of you are new to my blog and to the scroll saw. This project is called a compound cut.
The pattern is cut from two surfaces of the wood blank revealing a 3d cutting.

I used a construction grade 2X4 cit down square to the dimensions called for in the pattern.
Wrap two sides with blue painters tape and apply the pattern over the tape folded on the center line.
I drilled two entry holes on side one and side two.
I like to use a clamp jig but you could probably hand hold this piece. You can also just just a quick clamp. This Jig is in mya online catalog if you wish to build one. Just search for "jig" in the search box. You can get to the free online catalog from a link on my blog.
Complete cutting side one.
Flip the blank in the jig ad prepare to cut side two.
Remove the blank from the jig and get ready for the reveal.
Remove all the waste wood and see how you did.

A few pictures from the Show: Artistry in Wood.

I was able to take photos today at the show and I may be able to do some video tomorrow. I wanted to share a few pictures so you could see just a sample of the talent that is here.

There are a few scroll saw artist here and I hope to get photos of them tomorrow.
The show was well attended the first day. When they opened to door at 10am there was a good crown already waiting. The good news is that the show floor is so large that you never felt squeezed.
The great news is that there were many scrollers who attended. All the scroll saw vendors told me they were pleased with the numbers.
I spent my day getting to talk with people. Some had never used a scroll saw and seemed interested in trying the hobby. Many of the guests that stopped by had been scrolling for years which was great. I did not lose my voice but it got a little scratchy.
For a show that is primarily targeted for carvers I feel like the scrollers did a good job of being represented. Judy Gale Roberts did her as usual wonderful jod doing her demonstration. I was sitting next to the demo room and I could hear how excited the attendees were when she showed her wonderful intarsia techniques.
Fox Chapel was there with their incredible selection of magazines and books. Wayne and Jacob Fowler were at the Fox Chapel booth showing their pattern book. This was the first time I had the pleasure to meet them. Very talented father and son duo. Chris from Scrollnado was there showing his great scroll saw dust collections system. The Scrollnado is now also available for the excalibur. I'll be working with Chris again soon. He does a great job for our community.

At of course Seyco was there and were my host. I think they had a good day. I saw a few saws making the trip to peoples cars. Lots of people took a keen interest in the Seyco ST-21 after they had a chance to sit in front of the machine and take a test drive.
I'm ready for another day and I will do my best to bring you more content from the show floor.

I hope to see a few of you there.

Think Safety

Remember to keep the safety of yourself and others in your work shop in your thoughts at all times. Always wear eye and ear protection. Follow all the manufactures warnings that came with your power tools. If I demonstrate something on this web site that you don't feel is safe, don't do it. Your safety is your responsibility. Fingers are handy things, try to keep all of them.
