In memory of Martin Luther King Jr. on his day January 21, 2019
"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear." Martin Luther King Jr.
This Martin Luther King Jr. inspirational quote is 9.5" tall. You can use the optional backer board to make it a wall hanging. Leave off the backer board and add a base for more of a sculptural piece of word art.
Want to win $100? Bear Woods can make that happen.

Need some math help:
Feel free to skip this if you don't like math problems.
On December 31, I posted this pattern of the Octagon Basket. It has an error that I have not been able to correct. I need some help. The miter along each side of the eight sides is 22.5 degrees forming an octagon. Because the sides are tapered this causes the basket to form the basket shape.
Up to that point, everything is good. Here is the place I need help. The bottom of each of the eight sides has to be cut on an angle so there is a flat surface to glue the bottom on. I left the blade tilted to 22.5 degrees and it was close enough to get the glue up done. Unfortunately, that is not correct.
I can do physical measurements and approximate the correct angle to be around 15 degrees but I want to have the math to give an exact answer.
The diameter across the top of the basket if 10 inches. The diameter across the bottom of the basket is 7 5/8 inches. The height of the basket is 4 3/4".
I am able to use my graphics program to draw and measure the angle for the bottom angle to be 14.33 degrees.(See photo). Is this correct? Given a height in inches, top diameter in inches and bottom diameter in inches what is the math to calculate the bottom angle?
Now for the tougher question. The bottom angle calculated above is caused because each of the eight sides is tapered. That's what gives it the basket shape. I was able to do the measurement above because I already had the basket built and was able to physically measure the top and bottom diameter.
How do I determine the top and bottom diameters before the basket is built? Given the shape below and making an eight-sided basket, how do I calculate what the top and bottom diameter will be from these measurements?
If you are a woodworker and have read this far I know you are screaming to just sand the bottom flat after the sides a glued together. Good point and that will work but as a designer, I need to be able to make the patterns and that requires me to be able to make the calculations.
I normally am able to solve these problems using Google. I have not been successful finding Google results that are giving me the help I want. If you have the knowledge to help me understand this I do appreciate it. I have other designs in mind that need this math and I want to have a better understanding before I begin.
2007-2018 Scrollsaw Workshop Catalog DVD Now Available. $20
$20 plus shipping
For those of you who have been waiting for the update, it is now available to order.
For those of you who are new here are the details.
Every year in January I compile all the scroll saw patterns that I have designed and put them on a DVD. The DVD includes every pattern from 2007-present. Currently, that is over 2,600 patterns.
Why should you buy the DVD? These are the same patterns that are in my free online catalog. You do not have to buy the DVD to have access to the patterns.
The DVD is produced because so many people asked for it. People want to have the patterns available locally. In some cases, they want the patterns for their club library. Others like the ease of searching the patterns on their local computer. Many people buy the DVD just to support what I do.
The #1 reason I have been told that the DVD catalog is needed is that they fear I will go offline and all the pattern will be gone forever.
Whatever your reason I truly appreciate you purchasing the DVD. The sales from this product go a long way to support what I do here on the blog.
