Love You Roses Scroll Saw Pattern.

This bundle of "Love You Roses" is over ten inches tall. In the pattern, I show both the roses and the backer board as 1/4" thick. This is one of those patterns that you can change things up and use different thicknesses. It will be a bit fragile but you can probably eliminate the backer board.

Let's talk for a minute about selecting wood for a pattern like this that is somewhat fragile. A couple of things to avoid. Don't try this pattern with a wood that has a coarse grain. Red Oak is a good wood to avoid on this type of pattern. The open grain will break easily.

The scroll saw blade will also have a tendency to try to follow the grain making it difficult to follow the pattern line. There is not very much room for error on this pattern so you need to cut reasonably accurately.

Don't use cheap plywood. I can almost guarantee a broke piece if you do. If you choose ply go with a high-quality ply like Baltic birch. The extra plies give it superior strength.

Project Share from Guy Snell:

Several days ago I posted the pattern for this mother and child segmentation sculpture. Several of you emailed me to say you enjoyed cutting and sculpting the project. I especially enjoyed receiving this photo from Guy Snell. He cut the project from two species and made these beautiful contrasting color sculptures.

Here is the email from Guy.

I wanted you to know how much I have and continue to enjoy this pattern.

I did a few minor changes in the workup: first I made two with walnut and cherry, then swapped out portions to get two-tone finished pieces. I also cut out the 1” frame and mother first, then thickness planed the background to about ½” thick before processing them. My little belt sander worked great for the various sculpting. Finally, I put on a small “free-Stand” rather than a hanger. Finish is a semi-gloss urethane spray.

Thank you as always for the work that you do.

Thanks, Guy.

The pattern is in my online catalog if you missed it. Just search "Mother and Child".
If you look for the pattern now it is still on the first page but will fall off sometime this week.

Math Gurus solved my problem: Thank you.

I had dozens of emails with answers to yesterday's questions I posted. Several people offered charts with the formula built in. Another group knew how to solve the problem with the formula. It took me a while to read through all the answers but I think I have it down now. Thank you so much for the help.

Albert Baggetta sent me this easy to follow formula. This pretty well set me straight. Using this formula I calculated the angle at 382 degrees. That's about what I thought it should be. Thanks Al.

2007-2018 Scrollsaw Workshop Catalog DVD Now Available. $20

$20 plus shipping

For those of you who have been waiting for the update, it is now available to order.

For those of you who are new here are the details.

Every year in January I compile all the scroll saw patterns that I have designed and put them on a DVD. The DVD includes every pattern from 2007-present. Currently, that is over 2,600 patterns.

Why should you buy the DVD? These are the same patterns that are in my free online catalog. You do not have to buy the DVD to have access to the patterns.

The DVD is produced because so many people asked for it. People want to have the patterns available locally. In some cases, they want the patterns for their club library. Others like the ease of searching the patterns on their local computer. Many people buy the DVD just to support what I do.

The #1 reason I have been told that the DVD catalog is needed is that they fear I will go offline and all the pattern will be gone forever.

Whatever your reason I truly appreciate you purchasing the DVD. The sales from this product go a long way to support what I do here on the blog.
