The Superheroes of my day were in 25 cent comic books. Now they are in multi-million dollar movies. This pattern is a tribute to some of my favorite superheroes.
There are two versions of the pattern included. The small one is ~10" tall and the large one is ~15" tall. I cut the small version in the picture above from 1/4" thick Baltic birch plywood. I painted the backer board black. The small version does have a couple delicate cuts. Just go slow and you should be fine.
I did edit the pattern slightly after I cut the test above. The third set of legs on the spider were very delicate so I extended them to the circle. I do recommend that you save those cut until the last. Rough handling could break the legs as you make the other cuts.
The Seyco Scrollers Drill Update:
The folks over at Seyco.com recently updated their Scrollers drill. Ray was kind enough to send me one for review. I have used the original Scrollers Drill for a couple years and it is my goto tool for drilling entry holes.
I'll be honest, this is one of those tools that always gets very different comments from scrollers. When I demonstrated the original I had scrollers tell me they thought it was the best possible way to drill entry holes. I also had a few folks tell me they could not understand why it was any more useful than a hand drill.
Let me say this first. A hole is a hole. If you have a tool that will drill a hole small enough and accurate enough for the project you are cutting then that will get the job done. So why do I use the Scrollers Drill?
I have a full-size drill press. I have a few hand drills and I have a Dremel tool. I even have a mini-twist drill for very delicate work. All of those tools will drill entry holes. I use the Scrollers drill for three reasons.
1. There is no restriction on the throat depth like on a drill press. The Scrollers drill is perfect for large boards. If you do large portrait style patterns you will love the Scrollers Drill.
2. I can use drill bits smaller than 1/16" in the Scrollers Drill. I can do this also on my full-size drill press but I have to add a special chuck. I use small drill bits very often for small interior holes.
3. Comfort. The Scrollers Drill is much more comfortable than a hand drill. This becomes really important when you have many interior holes to drill. I have cut projects with hundreds of interior cuts. A hand drill is terrible for drilling that many holes. Even a drill press is less comfortable because I have to stand at the drill press. With the Scrollers Drill, I sit on my stool and drill right on my workbench.
What is the improvement in the updated Scrollers Drill? The original Scrollers Drill would sometimes bind on the way back up. There was a bit of a technique to make it smooth. The updated Scroller Drills action seems much smoother after lubricating the spring shaft. Lubricating the original helped also but not as well as on the updated unit.
So if you already own the original Scrollers Drill should you update? Not really. The original works fine. If you do not already own one then this is a nice tool
If any of the reason above interest you then I do like and recommend the Scroller Drill from Seyco.

3M 45 Spray Adhesive, 10.25-oz. - Quantity 6
I use spray adhesive to attach my scroll saw patterns to the blank. My favorite is the 3M 45. A quick spray and it's ready to go. No waiting for the glue to tack up before you apply the pattern. I also use tape under the pattern so I am not concerned about the pattern is difficult to get off. I just want a good bond so the patterns does not lift while cutting. 3M 45 does the job and is priced less than other brands.
This is a six-pack. Under $6 per 10.25oz can.
