Valentine's Day is not that far off. This layered 3D floating "I Love You", heart might make a nice gift. There are six layers with the "I Love You" connected to the fourth layer, giving it a floating effect.

Yesterday's Poll Results:

Yesterday I talked about using tape when applying patterns to the wood. I created a quick poll to see how many of you use tape. Below are the results after one day.

Poll - Do you use tape when applying scroll saw patterns to wood?

Here are some comments left by people who responded to the poll.

Ray
I use orange color painter's tape sold at my local paint store. I also at times, apply clear packing tape to keep the pattern in place.

Kim
We use painter, clear, and shelf paper, even the shelf paper at Dollar Tree works good for the patterns

Dan
I use the blue tape, but the clear packing tape works to. The blue tape is thicker and not as good for cutting fine details.

Gary
I use clear contact shelf paper which I find easier to use & remove.

Dennis
I have to qualify my No answer. I have used tape and still do occasionally for small pieces. Sometimes I don't use anything for small pieces, its easier to use mineral spirits for adhesive release. Most of the time I use clear shelf paper. Its quicker to apply (one sheet instead of multiple strips). And its easier to remove in my opinion.

Dan
I am new to scrolling. Was having a lot of trouble removing the pattern. My brother in-law told me about using painters tape, it was a godsend, it has made removing patterns easier and I believe it has helped make my cuts better.

Roger
I USE THE WHITE WALMART SHELF PAPER. I CUT THE PAPER INTO 8 1/5 BY 11 INCHES SHEETS AND I PRINT THE PATTERN RIGHT ON THE SHELF PAPER. MAKING SURE THAT THE WOOD IS DUST FREE, I STICK THE PATTERN ONTO THE WOOD, AND VOILA! I USE MY BROTHER LASER PRINTER TO PRINT THE PATTERN ON THE SHELF PAPER-MAKING SURE TO PUT A STRIP OF SCOTCH TAPE ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THE SHELF PAPER TO PREVENT DELAMINATION OF THE PAPER AS IT FEEDS THROUGH THE PRINTER {MAKES A HORRIBLE MESS WHEN THAT HAPPENS}

Maggie and Jerry
I use clear shelf paper, then place the pattern on top of this. Some scrollers will then place on top of the pattern. I do not do this. I found sawdust would accumulate under the tape hiding the pattern. I have no problems of the pattern coming loose from the shelf paper.

Ceil
I adhere my pattern to painter's tape then cover the pattern and wood with clear tape. I figure the clear tape not only helps keep the pattern in place but also lubricates the blade. Overkill? Maybe but it works for me.

Harry
Easily removes pattern from wood

Don
I like using the tape method it does make it so much easier to remove the pattern from my project as opposed to attaching the pattern directly to the wood. I learned the hard way. Thanks, Steve for the advice.

Mitch
I use tape for easy pattern removal.
