For all of you race-horsing fans, this pattern is for you. My father-in-law was a big horse racing fan. He would study the race form like it was the best read ever. When I would go with him to the track he would tell me who would get out of the gate first and who would have the lead in the first turn. Then he would point out who the closers were. He knew most of the owners and all of the jockeys.
In 1980 I went with him to the Keeneland race track in Lexington KY. My process for picking winners was simple. Guess! I bet a trifecta on one race. All three horses broke in the order I had them bet. I was excited but Melvin told me they were not the closers and not to get too excited. They ran in that order the whole race and I cashed a $900 ticket. The next day I went to RadioShack and bought my first computer. That got me hooked on computers. That $900 win has cost me tens of thousands of dollars in computers by now. 😁 Luckily I have been able to earn most of that money back.
The racehorse and jockey pattern calls for 1/4" and 1/2" thick wood. Only the base is 1/2" thick. There are not many interior cuts so this one should be fairly easy to build. The horse is 10" long.
The handsaw pattern calls for 1/4" and 1/2" thick wood.
