Today I have a male and female version of a Shop Welcome sign. The pattern calls for 1/4" thick wood and is 10.25" wide.
The piggy bank is over 10" long and 5" tall. The coin slot is large enough for a silver dollar and wide enough to easily get the coins out.
Wood Dust!
I watched a YouTube video today by Stumpy Nubs (Video Link). I have always respected his advice, and today he made some great points about dust in the shop. That made me think about my own shop and double-checking my dust collection systems.
I basically have three levels of dust protection. I have simple paper masks and a better-quality respirator for larger jobs. A larger job is something like emptying the large dust collector. I use paper masks when using the scroll saw or other dust-producing tools.
Next, I have my large dust collector. I use it on the table saw and planer. Those two tools produce a lot of dust. I use shop vacs at my router table, miter saw, belt, and drum sanders.
Last I have an air filter that hopefully takes the fine airborne dust out of the air. I do not have an air quality meter so I am not sure how well the air filter works but it gives me some protection.
In the video, I mentioned above Stumpy says there is no such thing as eliminating all dust in the shop. I am absolutely sure that is a fact but getting rid of as much as possible is a good idea. It not only helps keep clean up of the shop easier but the health benefits can be important.
Even if you only have paper masks as dust protection they need to be worn to work. I can't count the times I have started a cut and realized I forgot to put on my mask.
Take a few minutes today and audit your dust collection and protection systems. Make a commitment to use them as much as possible. It is worth the money and time to protect your environment and health.
