Celebrating Labor Day is essential as it honors American workers' significant contributions and achievements. This holiday, rooted in the late 19th-century labor movement, recognizes the efforts of those who fought for fair wages, reasonable working hours, and safer working conditions. It serves as a reminder of the progress made in workers’ rights and the ongoing need to advocate for fair labor practices. By celebrating Labor Day, we acknowledge the vital role workers play in building and sustaining the nation’s economy and well-being.
The productivity of the American worker has seen significant growth over the decades, with net productivity increasing by roughly 253% since 1948. This growth highlights the efficiency and dedication of the U.S. labor force in producing goods and services.
Since 2000, US labor productivity has increased by 1.5% per year. From 2000 to 2022, US workers produced 60% more "stuff" while only increasing their hours worked by 10%.
In 2003, American worker productivity increased by 2.7%, which is higher than the average annual rate of 2.1% since World War II. 11% of US workers report working more than 50-hour weeks.
Third Pattern Today
Celebrating the American Worker
Click to EnlargeThe hummingbird pattern is large at 15" wide and 7" tall. The main layer can but cut from any thickness of wood but the pattern calls for 3/4". The backer board is 1/4" thick.
The Happy Halloween door hanger is 10.25" wide. The pattern is three layers thick. Each layer is 1/4" thick.
The last pattern is my celebration of the American worker. It is just over 14" wide and 10" tall. Labor Day Holiday is ranked 14th on a list of the most celebrated holidays. The complexity, size, and nature of this pattern make me believe that not many of you will actually take the time and effort to cut it. Regardless, it is my way of thanking all of us who spent many hours building this country into what it is today.
